We went to City of Rocks for UEA. Bruce, Sarah and Tyler went with Jean, Steve, Kathryn and Emma. Brent Lundstom came up on Friday so we had great lead climbers!! All climbed (except Jean because she did not want to injure her injured finger!!

I had a wonderful time in Ohio visiting Chris and Natalie and kids. Chris went to a conference in San Francisco for part of the time that I was there so I was a help to Natalie while he was gone. The kids are great and busy. Natalie is feeling well and also very busy and tired!! We went to a farm that had fun things to do.

Derrick, 5 weeks old, he has cute dark eyes, not sure if they will be blue or brown, loves to be held and snuggled.

Trip to Banff, Cananda

Some of the family went to Banff, Canada for our family vacation!! It was an incredible place, once we got there. We had bought a suburban so we had room for more of our family and it decided to have transmission problems along the way. We were blessed to be in a town, Shelby, Montana, when the transmission would not shift out of 1st. We found a repair shop, found a way to rent a different car and continued on with our vacation. The Canadian Rockies are truly spectacular and we saw and did wonderful things. We hiked, camped, saw 5 bears, 2 moose, many deer and other wildlife. We went out on a glacier, walked around, it was awesome. Eph and Steve, climbed Mount Temple, the rest of us went up a ski lift and had a spectacular view, of both the valley below, Lake Louise and Mount Temple. It was a great trip.

After walking on the glacier with a group, Eph, Mandy, Kathryn and Steve put on their crampons and used ice axes and went for a walk. It was fun for them and I loved watching them, as did many others who were wondering if they could also do it wearing the "funny shoes"!

















Steve, Amy, Kathryn and Ellen at Bow Valley. The lake is green because of rock flour, ground up rock from the glacier grinding over rocks and that being deposited into the lake. The light reflects off of the rock flour and gives the lake a green color.
















We hiked up Johnston canyon, to lower and upper falls. This is us at upper falls. Great hike and beautiful all the way.















Moraine Lake and the valley of the 10 peaks. Wow what a place. We hiked around this lake to the inlet, a glacier-fed stream.

Kathryn, so grown up!!

Wow What a summer this has been. I really thought I would keep up with this blog each week, but I have not even done so for 1 week. We had a wedding--Johanna married Jared Hughes in July. It was fun getting the yard ready for it, even though the weather made it so we held the reception indoors. After the wedding Kathryn, Steve and I attended Young Women camp. We took a family vacation to Banff, Canada (complete with a car breakdown), attended marching band camp, have had lots of fun family adventures with Chris and Natalie and family here for a week. Following are a few pictures of the summer.
